Facebook Makes a Corporate Move
I have recently read an article which states some new changes Facebook will soon be making. Most people know successful companies are often involved in key partnerships which are beneficial for both or all companies involved. Well, this is exactly what Facebook is doing. Facebook is planning to introduce partnerships with companies such as Netflix, music downloading companies, and others. As a result of this partnership facebook members would be able to see what their friends are watching for movies, listening to for music, etc. Then, as a result of these updates, the companies which facebook is partnering with will get their name advertised as well. However, facebook wants to make it clear they are not becoming a "goods" site such as Amazon or Ebay. Facebook is simply partnering with companies in order to spread the name of all participants in the partnership. I think there are positives and negatives to this situation. An example of a positive with this situation is that the companies involved increase their advertising effectiveness and spread their name across a major social networking channel. An example of a negative in these partnerships is that facebook users might become annoyed by constantly hearing about what their friends are watching or listening to. This is could turn more negative because facebook users could boycott these services provided by facebook and the other companies. All in all, facebook needs to consider the positives and negatives to this situation before immediately implementing. I think this should be very interesting to follow what happens with the partnerships facebook is thinking about starting.
